Beginning of the U.S.
In this unit, we learned about the struggles our country encountered after coming out of the Revolutionary War. We talked about the presidents and the Founding Fathers that helped form our country. At the same time, wondered what motivated these people to do something that was so foreign and out of the ordinary.
George Washington
After the Constitution was signed, the United States elected George Washington as the very first president. He is also the first and only president to have been elected unanimously. He was one of the most successful presidents. In his eight years in office, he became the ideal president that would be an example to the next presidents of our country. When President Washington left office, he gave our country some advice that hasn't exactly been taken to heart. He was finally able to go to his farm and live peacefully until he died two years later. |
John Adams
In 1796, John Adams was elected as the second President of the United States. He was only in office for four years John Adams was in office when the XYZ affair occurred. The French started raiding our ships so John Adams sent three men to negotiate with France. They talked to three people under the alias' Agent X, Agent Y, and Agent Z. Since Adams didn't start a war with France, he was hated by a lot of Americans and they started talking badly about him. He made a law that basically broke the first amendment which was later repealed by Thomas Jefferson. |
Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was a very personable and talented person which made him popular among Americans, thus he served for eight years. During Thomas Jefferson's presidency he approved of the Louisiana Purchase which expanded the United States greatly. As the third President of the United States he sent Lewis and Clarke to go explore the new territory. |
James Madison
Our fourth President of the United States, James Madison, wrote the Bill of Rights. He is often referred to as the Father of the Constitution and the Father of the Bill of Rights. In the War of 1812, Britain burned down the White House. Prior to this, James Madison's wife, Dolley Madison, managed to save all important documents as well as a painting of George Washington. She left their personal items in the fire. |
James Monroe
People say that our fifth president was pretty easy on the eyes. James Monroe, a very handsome young man, became our president during the Industrial Revolution. He created the Monroe Doctrine. This document stated that if anyway tried to wage war on any of the Americas, it would be like declaring war directly upon the United States of America. |
Why do we explore the unknown? I think we explore the unknown out of pure curiosity. There is always the little child in us that needs to know "Why?" "What?" "How?" It's simply to satisfy our hunger for knowledge.
