native americans
In this unit we learned about Native Americans. We focused on three main Native American tribes, the Aztecs, Incas, and Mayans, since they were the strongest tribes. The main focus of the unit was the rise and fall of these tribes, as well as the introduction of Europeans to the Americans.
The Aztecs
The Aztec Empire was born in the early 14th century. They lived on a marshy island in their capital city, Tenochtitlan. These people were roaming around for quite some time, until they had finally found vacant territory. They built their empire there, which is now Mexico City. In that location, they sacrificed many people to their Sun and Moon God. They conquered most of central Mexico until 1502 when the Spanish came and brought diseases to the New World. |
The Incas
The Inca Empire was started in the 13th century. The Incas were often called the "Sky People" due to their extremely advances houses and cities which is also how they rose to power. The most popular and famous Incan city is Machu Pichu which is modern day Peru. They were less gruesome than the Aztecs and Mayans but they were also wiped out by the introduction of Europeans. |
The Mayans
The Mayan Empire was started in the early A.D. years way before the previous two tribes. Considering the supplies the Mayans may have had in this time period, they were very advanced. They showed understanding in math and used the stars to map. Of all the tribes listed, the Mayans have probably the largest influence on society today. The fall of the Mayan Empire is still being speculated today, and no one knows for sure what happened. |
How do all of my actions have a positive or negative reaction? When you choose to do something, you effect something, whether you effect someone, something or yourself. Everything you do has a consequence and sooner or later we have to face them. If we think our actions through, we can avoid making stupid decisions which could make myself, my family, community, and society better.
